Maggie and I took the train to Ravenna this Saturday. The town was much quieter and more peaceful than Florence, with the eerie-feeling of a post-Communist era war town. The mosaics there were the most beautiful pieces of art I have seen yet - gold and teal and rainbows. We sat sketching in every freezing cold stone chamber as an excuse to stay and look as long as possible.
